Reuters Blog on the Ban of Burqas

It was a little harder to find a blog on the French banning of the burqas, but I believe the one by reuters.com is a good one. I thought the information on the blog was interesting because it was stated that apparently there won’t be a ban after all. Just “recommendations”. President Nicolas Sarkozy was quoted “France is a country that has no place for the burqa or the subjugation of women — not under any pretext, any condition or any circumstance.” And I understand what he is trying to do, but I strongly disagree with the way France originally tried to implement that belief. I think it is wrong for anyone to tell anyone else that they can’t do something (unless it is harmful to another person). These women who wear burqas should have the right to choose to wear them or choose not too, but that should be their choice, not someone else’s.

Teen Pregnancy on families.com

families.com has posted a blog discussing different stories and solutions for teen pregnancy. I thought it was very interesting how one entry is titled, “Should We Pay Teens to Not Get Pregnant?”. I don’t know if that would be a very good solution to stop teen pregnancy for a couple of reasons. One is that it I don’t think it would work. Teens would say there were practicing safe sex and abstinence, but not actually do that, and then they would take the money any way. The families.com blog is a good blog for a variety of interesting topics having to do with teen pregnancy.

“Argument Clinc” is a very funny skit that brings up the question of what an argument actually is. I thought that the point that contradictions and arguments often are assumed to be the same thing was a very valid point. Many people misconceive that arguments have to have two sides in order to be argued, but that is not always the case. Someone can argue that the solution they have come up with for some sort of problem is the correct solution, and if no one else challenges or disagrees with that solution, then there is not a second side to the argument. But that does not mean that the argument didn’t exist just because there was only one side argued.

The arguments that I have been observing over the last couple of days are the television insurance commercials (like Esurance and Geico). These arguments play well into the “Argument Clinic” skit because each car insurance company argues that there product is the best product for the best price while they trash all of the competition.
